Midd-West High School’s Young American for January 2026 is Matthew Hunsberger. He is the son of James and Rosemary Hunsberger of Richfield. Matthew has served in leadership roles as President of Vocal Collective (12th), Secretary of Vocal Collective (11th), Secretary in Theatre, and Assistant Director and Co-Bass Section Leader of Concert Choir. In the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, he has advanced in two District Chorus Festivals, two Region Chorus Festivals, All State Chorus Festival, and two District Modern Band Festivals. Matthew has been chosen as the Student of the Month in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. He has been on the Honor and Distinguished Honor Rolls throughout his high school career. Matthew is in the Work Study Program with a placement at Middleburg Elementary School as a teacher’s aide in a third-grade classroom. Matthew is a classically trained pianist for over 12 years and a self-taught gymnast. He enjoys growing his own plants. After graduation, Matthew is planning to further his education at Susquehanna University and would like to become a high school Biology teacher. Matthew believes he was chosen as a Young American because he is diligent to keep up with his assignments and pushes himself to succeed in whatever he does. Matthew would like others to know that he is a Christian and plans to live his life for God and the Church.
