Midd-West High School December 2025

Midd-West High School would like to recognize the following students for being selected as a Leader of the H.E.R.D. These students regularly exhibit one (or more) of the four-character traits of the H.E.R.D., being Helpful, Empathetic, Responsible, Driven, and contribute to Midd-West High School in a positive way.

AHThe 8th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for December is Abigail Ferguson. She is the daughter of Donald and Katie Ferugson of Penns Creek. Abigail was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because she is a focused student who works hard on challenging tasks and steps up to help in Student Council activities. Abigail’s school activities include FFA, Student Council, Cheerleading, and Band. Outside of school, she enjoys riding horses, reading, listening to music, spending time with her friends, and hanging out with her cheer team. In the future, Abigail plans to attend Bucknell University to get her masters degree in Biochemistry and then go to John Hopkins Medical School to become Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

RZRidge Zechman is the 9th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for December. He is the son of Brent and Ava Zechman of Middleburg. In school, Ridge participates in Baseball and FFA. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing with his dad, working in his grandparents’ orchard, landscaping, and fixing things. After graduation, Ridge plans to do something that he loves to do like landscaping or fixing things. Ridge was selected as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because he is always respectful, on task, tries his best, and participates in class.

MSThe 10th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for December is Maverick Smith. He is the son of Matthew and Crystal Smith of Middleburg. Maverick was selected as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because he has gone above and beyond as a photographer for the yearbook and regularly volunteers to cover more events than are required. Maverick’s school activities include Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the current Class President since his Freshman year. Outside of school, he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing travel baseball, riding bike, and spending time with his family. After graduation, Maverick is planning to attend college to major in Business and Finance and possibly participate in athletics at the collegiate level.

JPJake Plummer is the 11th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for December. He is the son of Ronald and Stacy Plummer of Beavertown. Jake is in the Work Study Program with a placement at Cherry Hill Hardwood Lumber in Richfield. Jake was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because he is a great worker who is doing well with no issues and has received high reviews from Cherry Hill. He has an interest in helicopters and enjoys snowboarding, riding dirt bikes, and playing games. In the future, Jake is planning to join the Army to become a helicopter pilot.

SHThe 12th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for December is Shaleea Hockenberry. She is the daughter of Toshia Feaster of McClure and Chaz Hockenberry of Mifflintown. Shaleea was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because she is a great worker and helper. She is quick to volunteer, was vital during prom last year, and has stepped up to help sort fundraisers. Shaleea is in the Work Study Program with a placement at Troutman’s Market in Middleburg. In her free time, she enjoys fishing and hanging out with her friends. After graduation, Shaleea is planning to further her education at Delaware Valley University for a degree in Zoo Science and then working a zoo
