Midd-West High School would like to recognize the following students for being selected as a Leader of the H.E.R.D. (Helpful, Empathic, Responsible, and Driven). These students put forth effort, attend school regularly, and contribute to Midd-West High School in a positive way.
The 8th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for September is Matthias Kuhns. He is the son of Brandon and Ashley Kuhns of Middleburg. Matthias was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because he sets a good example for other students to follow by working hard during class and maintaining a positive attitude about learning. His school activities include Junior High Basketball, Junior High Soccer, Concert Band, and Concert Choir. Outside of school, he enjoys playing basketball and is very involved with the Port Ann Wesleyan Youth Group. In the future, Matthias is planning to attend college for a higher education degree potentially in Interventional Radiology.
Conner Faust is the 9th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for September. He is the son of Sherry Maust of Watsontown and Daniel Faust of Middleburg. In school, Conner participates in Football. In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting and gaming. After graduation, he would like to start a Market Intermediary business. Conner was selected as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because he is a leader in the classroom, helpful and kind to others, and responsible with his homework.
The 10th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for September is Careese Kratzer. She is the daughter of Donovan and Amy Kratzer of Middleburg. Careese was selected as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because she is a positive student who works hard to complete all her work and isn’t afraid to asks questions in class. She is a great role model for other students because she always tries her best and puts forth effort to be successful. Careese loves school and her favorite subject is Math. Outside of school, she enjoys camping, swimming, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family. In October, Careese will be participating in her first power lifting competition. After graduation, Careese is planning to enter the work force.
Alexis Heim is the 11th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for September. She is the daughter of Rahn and Renee Heim of Paxtonville. In school, Alexis participates in Key Club, Class Congress, and Softball. This year she is doing an internship as a teaching assistant with the Fun with Foods class. She enjoys babysitting, reading, going on walks, baking, cooking, and going to concerts. In the future, Alexis is planning to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology for her BSN in Nursing. Alexis was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because she is kind, helpful, and always respectful to others.
The 12th grade Leader of the H.E.R.D. for September is Shyanne Hoskie. She is the daughter of Steven and Jennifer Hoskie of Richfield. Shyanne was chosen as the Leader of the H.E.R.D. because she has shown maturity as a student who takes pride in her schoolwork, is diligent in completing her work, and advocates for herself. She knows when to ask for help and provides support to other students when she can do so. Shyanne’s school activities include Choir and FFA. She is also in the Work Study Program at Big Foot Country radio station. In her free time, she enjoys singing because it allows her to express her emotions and drawing as it gives her a creative outlet to bring her ideas to life. After graduation, Shyanne is planning to continue to work at Big Foot Country
