Midd-West High School Celebrates 100 Years with District-Wide Scavenger Hunt Adventure
Middleburg, PA — In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Midd-West School District’s high school, students across all grade levels are invited to embark on a one-of-a-kind journey through history with a district-wide scavenger hunt built into a custom deck of playing cards.
This interactive experience is more than a game—it’s a tribute to a century of education, community, and curiosity. Every student in the district will receive a free deck of cards on September 19th, distributed by their homeroom teacher.
Each card in the deck features a QR code that unlocks historical challenges and clues tied to local landmarks and events. The cards serve as a timeline, guiding students through 100 years of Midd-West history. For high school students, new clues will be released every Saturday, leading them on a hunt for commemorative coins hidden throughout the community. Elementary and middle school students will enjoy age-appropriate challenges with coins hidden in or around their school buildings.
When a coin is found, students can scan the QR code on the back to report their discovery and climb the leaderboard. All coin locations are safe and legal—students are reminded to follow rules and avoid any areas that feel off-limits.
Two special coin designs—one for the Mounties and one for the Middies—will be available only during the scavenger hunt, making them a collector’s item and a piece of district history.
The adventure is open to everyone! Friends, family members, alumni, and collectors are invited to join the fun by picking up their own deck of cards. A $10 donation to the Snyder County Historical Society gets you a deck and supports a meaningful cause: replacing the roof on the Snyder County Soldiers Monument. Donations can be made at the Snyder County Historical Society, Penn’s Creek Pottery, schools front offices at each building, or during Midd-West home football games.
This centennial celebration honors the legacy of Midd-West High School, originally dedicated in September 1925 with Governor Gifford Pinchot and other state officials in attendance. The original brick structure, designed by John F. Stetler & Son, stood as a symbol of educational progress and community pride. Today, the district continues that legacy with a modern twist—inviting students and the community to explore, learn, and celebrate together.
Join us in making history. Get your deck, scan your cards, complete your challenges, and celebrate 100 years of Midd-West with creativity, curiosity, and community spirit.
