Midd-West High School December 2023 Young American

Midd-West High School’s December 2023 Young American is Emily Kline. She is the daughter of Michael and Monica Kline of Middleburg. Emily serves in numerous leadership positions as Student Council President, National Honor Society Secretary, Girls Basketball Captain, Field Hockey Captain, Backyard Bunnies and Poultry 4-H Club Vice President, Happy Valley Sheep and Swine 4-H Club Treasurer, Snyder County 4-H Teen Council Social Chair, and Beaver Community Fair Junior Fair Board Member. She has also served as the Class Treasurer in 9th and 10th grade. Emily has been selected as the Student of the Month 9th – 12th grade and has achieved Distinguished Honor Roll and Honor Roll throughout her high school career. Emily has received the Daily Item Scholar Athlete of the Week, PHAC Division II Second Team All Star Field Hockey, Pennsylvania Field Hockey All State Academic Team, High School Intern at Evangelical Community Hospital, Beaver Community Fair Queen, and Outstanding 4-H Member. She gives back to the community by helping with elementary basketball, volunteering in concession stands for a local soccer club and baseball team, and planning events or fundraisers through student council that benefit families or organizations in need. Emily enjoys playing field hockey and basketball, participating in Junior Fair Board and 4-H, and showing sheep and rabbits. She likes working at Jacks Mountain Freeze, Bonsall's Tree Farm, and Geisinger Convenient Care Plus through her Work Study Co-Op. Following graduation, Emily is planning to attend the University of Pittsburgh or Penn State University to become a Physician’s Assistant and work in an Emergency Department. Emily believes that she was selected to be a Young American because of her involvement in both her school and community activities and because of her leadership qualities. Emily would like others to know that her experiences at Evangelical Community Hospital and at Geisinger's Convenient Care Clinic have influenced her to be a better employee and have been eye opening experiences. At Evangelical, she has spent 60 hours shadowing an Orthopedic Physician Assistant as well as spending time in various units and labs within the hospital. At Geisinger, Emily helps with, and sees, a wide range of things. The opportunities she has been given through these programs have helped her to choose her career path and believes they are preparing her for a successful career.
