Midd-West High School’s Young American for November 2023 is Jared Frantz. He is the son of Tom and Shawn Frantz of Mount Pleasant Mills. Jared has served as President of his 4-H club for the past 5 years. He currently is the President of the Midd-West FFA Chapter and previously held the Vice President and Sentinel Officer positions. He participates in Livestock Judging through the FFA. Jared has won numerous awards in both FFA and 4-H. In 2023, he won the Penn State Block and Bridle contest and placed second in 2021 and 2022. He placed second in the 4-H Livestock Judging State contest for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2023. Jared placed third in the FFA State Convention Livestock Judging in the state of Pennsylvania in the summer of 2023 and sixth in the summer of 2022. Jared has received his Discovery, Greenhand, and Star Chapter awards through FFA. He has had success showing many Champion and Reserve Champion animals at the Beaver Community Fair, along with having the Reserve Middleweight Cross Bred Market Lamb at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in 2023. He recently received the Reserved Champion Market Lamb at the Pennsylvania Youth Livestock Expo. Jared gives back to the community through his involvement with his church. At Easter time, he helps to make Easter eggs for his church every year. Recently Jared participated in a trip to Harrisburg to take care of, feed, and give to the less fortunate. It was a very touching activity that was an eye-opening experience. He enjoys showing livestock, hunting, and fishing. Jared plans to attend Penn State University and major in Agriculture Sciences with a minor in Agricultural Business. Jared believes he was chosen as a Young American because of his involvement in school and never being afraid of helping others. He would like others to know that he likes to have a lot of fun, but when it’s time to be serious he knows to be serious.
