April 2, 2024

Midd-West School District Teachers, Staff, Students and Parents:

The Midd-West School District in an attempt to both provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students while maintaining safety for all across the district has a unique plan for April 8, 2024 to help address the needs of all.

Due to the eclipse occurring across part of North America, the Midd-West School District will be dismissing early for all students. Our dismissal time at 2:15 is designed to allow most individuals to be home prior to the peak time of the eclipse. There is no good time in our area to be looking directly into the sun. The only safe way to do so is through the use of the appropriate eye wear.

For those students wishing to experience the solar eclipse, they will have the opportunity to stay after school that day. They will be provided with supervision and ISO certified 12312-2 protective glasses. In order to do so, participating students must submit a signed parent permission slip and have transportation home at 3:45 that afternoon. There will be alternate methods available for viewing should the weather necessitate such.

The Midd-West School District is happy to partner with parents in our attempt to create a nurturing and safe learning environment. We do apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience this may create to parents as we attempt to navigate this experience while providing the safest and best educational opportunities available for all.

Sincerely yours,

Joe Stroup, Superintendent
