Dear Midd-West Middle School Families,
Welcome to Midd-West Middle School, where we facilitate the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of all students so they can competently contribute to society, achieve their highest potential, and engage in continuous learning. We believe that children are most successful when home and school are closely united and supportive of each other. We welcome and encourage all parents and community members to get involved in the many great opportunities offered to our students at MWMS. By working together with all of you, and our dedicated staff, we are confident we will deliver a quality education for all, for life.
We have about 360 sixth and seventh grade students at MWMS along with an Early Intervention program that is operated by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU). Students in MWMS are departmentalized within their grade level team of teachers. All students receive English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. All students receive related arts instruction in the areas of Health and Physical Education, Computer Technology, Technology Education, Music, and Art. Band and Chorus are offered to students as an elective subject. Every student in the middle school has a laptop that extends and enhances the students’ learning opportunities.
MWMS has an active Student Council that coordinates many of the activities within the school. The Student Council is composed of 6th and 7th grade students who show interest in being leaders. MWMS also has a dedicated PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) that meets on the second Monday of every month (except December) at 6:00 pm in our library. The monthly PTO meetings start in September and conclude in May. The PTO is a great school resource, so we encourage active participation by all parents who are able to attend. Midd-West Middle School is an outstanding place for kids because of the support and dedication from our wonderful faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
The philosophy of MWMS is to provide: 1. A quality academic core of courses – A strong, well-rounded, standards-based core education in Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies which provides students the foundation for developing abilities to learn and solve problems and leads to knowledge and confidence to be successful in life. 2. A smooth transition from elementary to high school – Transition in middle school is a growing process that enables students to gradually rely less on adult decisions and input to being more decision makers and independent learners by providing support and opportunities for students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. 3. An exploration core of courses to provide students with the experiences necessary to select a high school pathway curriculum – Students will explore areas outside the academic core to discover their unique talents and abilities in order to become well-rounded, enriched individuals and foster areas of student and career interest. We welcome you to come and experience the great things happening at Midd-West Middle School and the Midd-West School District.
