Dear Parent/Guardian: 5/2/2022
It is that time of year when we focus some of our attention to the Keystone State Assessment. We are gearing up for the Spring 2022 Keystone Assessments at Midd-West High School. There will be three separate assessments, six total assessment sections, given to students in Algebra I, Biology, and Literature this year:
Keystone Literature: Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17
Keystone Algebra 1: Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19
Keystone Biology: Friday, May 20 and Monday, May 23
The Pennsylvania legislature approved Act 158 which states that students in the graduating class of 2022-2023 must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Biology, and Literature Keystone Exams to graduate. This Act also identifies the alternative pathways that can be fulfilled to meet the graduation requirement, including the Keystone Composite score.
The Composite Pathway requirements are:
- Score at least 1500 (proficient) on one of the three Keystone Exams, and
- Have an overall composite score of 4452 for all three Keystone Exams
When the dates of the assessments arrive, we ask your assistance in making the experience as successful as possible for all involved. There are several ways you can assist. One, we encourage you to set early bed times the night before an assessment. A full night’s sleep is an essential ingredient in assessment success. Two, proper hydration and nutrition have been proven to assist a student’s cognitive abilities. Please encourage your child to drink plenty of water and eat healthy meals, especially the morning of an assessment. Finally, a parent’s overall encouragement and positive attitude can go a long way in their child’s assessment success.
If you have any questions concerning the Keystone Assessments, please do not hesitate to contact the high school. Thank you in advance for your assistance this year, it takes an entire team to create student success!
