Attention

The Midd-West School District will be applying to Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to allow Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs) for the 2023-2024 school year. This is not an official announcement of the approved plan, however, only notification of the submission to PDE for their approval and/or edits. An official announcement with the approved details will be made after final approval from PDE. According to the application, the identified two (2) make up days (Monday, February 19, 2024, and Tuesday, April 2, 2024) identified each year that can be used for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to loss of power, weather related issues, or any other unforeseen incidents when the Superintendent of Schools needs to "close" school for that specific school day(s). When the schools are "closed" on any days prior to the two make up days, they are automatically "closed" school days; meaning the students do not have to attend school because it is closed. When school is "closed", the make-up day will be announced (as pre-determined by the approved calendar, see the above dates). The subsequent make up day, will then be a FID. For example, if school is closed on Monday, November 2 due to snow. The snow make up day (according to the Board approved calendar) would be Monday, February 19, 2024. That Monday, February 19, 2024, would then be the automatic FID. This process would only work for the first two days that have scheduled and approved make up days in the school year. The second automatic FID would be Tuesday, April 2, 2024, if schools were closed throughout the year for a second time.  If the number of closed days in a school year exceeds two (2) as designed by the calendar, the subsequent days (day number 3 on would be automatically FID and not have make up days).  For example, if on the 3rd district day closed, Wednesday, February 24, 2024, the school district would enact the FID plan and not have a traditional "closed day" due to already exceeding the two days of scheduled make up. This would continue throughout the remainder of the year until the calendar resets for the new school year.   Again, final details will be communicated after the process is completed with PDE and the Midd-West School District.
