Midd-West School District

A Quality Education For All, For Ltfe

March  28, 2023

Midd-West School District Community Members, Parents, and Students:

This message serves as an update to our entire community on the status of our discussions about our sports league affiliation following our Community Meeting  on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The Midd-West School District appreciates the public's participation and feedback in this event. The design of the evening was to both share and collect data to make a determination as to whether  further conversations were warranted.

At this time, there is no interest from the community in moving in a different direction.   65% of the respondents to the survey that evening indicated that they were Opposed to a move from the PHAC. Only

25% of those respondents indicated they Strongly Supported such a move. The other 10% were divided between being Indifferent or Supportive with Reservations.  That represents a consensus. In speaking with coaches from the beginning, it was discussed that this process would stop when there appeared to be a clear consensus in any one direction. So,consider these discussions behind us with our intention to continue our great traditions within  the PHAC.

It is important to cyclically analyze all programs and systems.  That includes our sports programs as these programs  do dramatically impact climate and culture in a school district.  We cyclically evaluate the status of our educational programs every five years. Holding civil discussions about hard topics is an important part of maintaining healthy programs.  We all want all our programs to be the best they can be. You need constructive  conversation to do this.

However, based upon the results of the community survey, the data would suggest that a proposal of this nature is not the wishes of the community. This is wonderful! It shows there is a commitment to make things work.  However, there is a lot that goes into that, and it includes give and take on all sides.  For our programs to be as successful as they can be, there must also be a commitment to work together. That will be the district's focus moving forward.

Thank you for your time, attention, and patience as we held these important conversations!

Sincerely yours,

Joe Stroup, Superintendent
